Accidental fire started by combine harvester as harvest started on Albury Lodge Estate August 1981. 10 fire engines, 50 firemen and a squad of police and TV reporters watched helplessly as 200 acres of standing wheat burned down where it stood. Albury was on the anglia 6 o'clock TV news that night. |

Caton's Stores (now 'Stax' and 'High Hall' opposite High Hall Farm) taken from the road looking North. Date of picture uncertain, although the presence of the Shell petrol pumps and the TV aerial must provide clues (are those Martini boxes in the store behind the gates?). If you know more, please email us. |

This looks to be the oldest photo of Caton's Stores, taken around the turn of the 19th century we'd guess, with some of the shop staff posing for the camera. This appears to be the shop door which subsequently had petrol pumps installed outside. Can anyone name any of the people? Please email us if so. |

installation of the petrol pumps. Photo taken by Olga Caton around 1950, showing
a cousin of her husband (in black) whose father was born in the shop and
subsequently emigrated to Australia and Walter Hutchin, who lived in Barncroft. |

This is a photo of Old Cottages, Albury End with the porch of The Fox public house to the left, believed to have been taken around 1935. |

This is a more recent picture, believed to have been taken around 1956, with The Fox directly ahead and Old Cottages on the right. The board next to the pub door is apparently showing the times for the cinema in Standon. The people in the picture are apparently Mr Godfrey and his niece, who lived in "Horsemans" at the time. |
