In the early hours of Friday 29th October 2004 the historic Catherine Wheel pub was burned to the ground. The only remaining pub in the village was also the oldest, having been built c.1765. The pub caught fire at approximately 4am. Landlords Steve, Lyn and son Stuart escaped unharmed but lost everything in the fire. Arson is suspected.
Although the village is in shock, plans are already in motion to organise the rebuilding of the pub, which was one of the few places in the village where locals could meet and socialise.
